The Lesson of Lebanon Lost, Once Free and Prosperous (and 54% Christian) - EurArabia Next?

The country of Lebanon was formed from part of the Ottoman Empire, which ruled the Middle-East for four centuries prior to World War I; after that, it was part of the Mandate Area set aside by England and France for settlement of Jews and Muslims - it was established as an independent country after World War II. Once predominantly Christian (54% to 44% Muslim), in the mid-sixties it became prosperous despite the lack of oil resources, bustling with activity, construction of apartments, hotels and tourism - boasting the highest living standards of any Arab country in the world. Its capital, Beirut, grew from 450 thousand to 1.25 million persons (about 50% of Lebanon's population); the country was proud of Beirup being called "Paris" of the Mid-East.

Then came the disastrous consequences of a country that forgot its purpose for being - to protect its citizenry - a country out of control, official incompetence and corruption; religious and political factions contesting authority everywhere, revenging grudges: political-religious-extremist groups running amok, funded by external Arab regimes; the Lebanese militia destroying five UNRWA camps, breeding grounds of resentment and hatred, putting down rebellion (leaving 11 camps from the original 16 UN camps with their hundreds of thousands of Palestinian refugees); the "Identity-Infidel killing raids" of Lebanese Christians by Lebanese Muslim extremists (identity cards divulging one's religion) - then flights to safety by those Christians able to flee, or going into hiding; the influx of thousands of terrorists into Lebanon from Jordan, after its Black September, killing thousands of the PLO; similar forced dumped-evictions of extremists from Syria; then rocket attacks from Lebanon's borders onto Israel by PLO and Hezbollah terrorist groups - with eventual IDF (Israel Defense Forces) retaliation raids to root them out - then IDF equipping and training a Lebanese Christian Force to defend its Christians, and to create a border buffer zone against future rocket attacks upon Israel - then a "revenge" by the Lebanese Christian Forces against Lebanese Muslims, killing hundreds at camps Sabra and Shatilla (Israel, uninvolved in the inter-religious chaos and killings of tens of thousands above, is faulted by the world for not restraining the Lebanese Christians).

The life of Ms. Brigitte Gabrielle, now an American citizen, author and speaker (on Islamic terrorism and Lebanon) - from her age ten to teens - was witness to the end of Lebanon's Christian life. Her statements tell the story:

  • She grew up hearing talk about religion and politics. discussion was anti-Israeli, equating Israel and Jews with the devil. She attended a private Christian school.
  • She describes Palestinian atrocities against Christians. She says that the Palestinians would park their tanks and cannons in front of their bomb shelters and launch rockets at Israel, then drive away, knowing that Israel would fire back and hit the Christian bomb shelters.
  • She says, "My home in Lebanon was destroyed by shelling; I lived in an 8 X 10-foot bomb shelter for seven years between the ages of 10 and 17; I ate grass to live, drank dirty water from a nearby spring and spent evenings in candlelight, covering my ears from the sound of the bombs exploding around me."
  • She says, "Once, at age 13, I went to bed dressed in my Sunday best because I wanted to look pretty for burial if I was killed by the Muslims. My only crime was that I was a Christian in what was once the only predominantly Christian country in the Middle East - before Islamic Jihad took hold and turned it into a terrorist haven."
  • That night her life was saved by the Israeli invasion to the Litani river. She lived four years "protected" by the presence of the IDF.
  • She says, "The Israelis came into Lebanon to liberate them in 1982, because Hezbollah had joined with the Palestinians." Her mother was wounded in the shelling, taken to a hospital in the village tended by an Israeli doctor and two Israeli nurses, then taken in an Israeli ambulance to Israel for medical treatment. (She was then a teenager.)
  • At the hospital, IDF helicopters brought in Israeli casualties - she expected an angry reaction against her and her mother - but an Israeli nurse took her around, "Don't worry, we'll take care of your mother". She cried, tells herself, "These are people of compassion I want to live with."
  • Relating the experience of kindness at the Israeli hospital, she says that she broke down sobbing because she had "experienced civilization for the first time in my life." After 22 days at the Israeli hospital, Gabriel and her mother return to Lebanon.
  • Gabriel moved to Israel in 1985, got a job as a news anchor at Middle East News, speaks fluent English, French, Arabic and Hebrew. She now lives in America.

Today, Ms. Gabrielle's message is for the "politically correct" in America and Europe, who seem not to comprehend the happenings to Lebanon and their causes:

  • She says, "Why didn't the US media show more of the beheadings of Daniel Pearle and others - so people would understand what truly gratuitous cruelty is."
  • Her memories are even more horrible: a Christian mother with her young son tied to her lap - forced to cut off his h--d; perhaps even worse, a Christian father and mother, each leg of their baby strapped to their waists - then they are pulled apart!
  • She says, "We are constantly told that Islam is a religion of peace, that only a small percentage of Muslims are killers. Where is the proof? Perhaps they can't speak out in Arab countries, but here in America they can - where is assurance from moderate Muslims that Islam will let us live in peace in our own Christian countries?"
  • She says, "The 1988 Hamas charter to destroy Infidels teaches, from their Mosques, how Muslims can demand rights, then take over countries - protected by democratic principles of Christian-majority countries.
  • She says, "Osama bin Ladin was one of 53 children, he himself had 27 children. Where is any concern in the 'politically correct' Western democracies about such birth rates - as we open our country's gates?"
  • She says, "Where are the Islamic voices of sanity - for peaceful co-existence of our culture and religion with Islam? Are there any? And if not - her message is - wake up Europe and America, see what happened to Christian Lebanon"!

Note: To complete the history of Lebanon regarding its majority religion, present information is that its Muslim population is now at 60%, increased from 44% only several decades ago, thus the Christian percentage has dropped from 54% to 38%.

Mary Magdalene

The Family of Jesus:

There are many good scholarly works including those by Rabbis and Jewish scholars that can deal factually with the nature of Paul and the Gospels. He was a Roman who falsely claimed to be a Pharisee and probably engineered the assassination attempt on James. He reported to the Sadducees for a long time. They reported to Herod who reported to Rome just as Josephus later wrote for Rome along with other propagandists. Joseph of Arimathaea was the Roman Minister of Mines and a member oof the Sanhedrin. After his part in the stoning of St. Stephen he may always have reported to them, but eventually his Roman managers thought he got too big for his britches. In his Epistles to Timothy there are many ways to show he stood against the teaching of Jesus and his desire to see women get a more equal role in society. He says things like man is the head of women who should not be heard in church. You could say Paul was a double agent at best. I recommend Vatican II and a study by Mary Rose DAngelo on the historicity of Jesus and his views on women and the priesthood. The Pharisees were well respected as defenders of the rights of people, no matter what station or gender, throughout the Parthian and Roman Empires.

Dr. Norman Golb is a leading authority on the Dead Sea Scrolls. He has made an impassioned plea for an end to the politics associated with the Scrolls. Some would like us to believe there was only some sect known as Essenes who were at Qumran, but Golb makes it clear there was a united front including Pharisees and zealots. Indeed this became a repository for much of the literature of the region because everyone knew the Roman penchant for destroying culture as part of the propaganda and control of conquered peoples. The Romans always tried to buy the leaders in a region they wished to take over. It is a good way to expand the Empire and a better way to cut the heart out of the opposition. The Druids would not do this in the main. I think the arch-tectons who designed the Great Pyramid were against Rome in the same way. It may not make them Druids in the matter of Abaris and his education of Pythagoras but there is a lot of Verbal Tradition (Qabala) and esoterics in the family of Jesus.

The matter of Mary Magdalene is fraught with all kinds of possibilities. The issue of her being a Therapeutae leads me to suspect she and her friends could have given Jesus the potions to cause a death-like state, and of course he was an adept in these matters too. Digitalis and belladonna might get one off the crucifix and allow a revival. Isnt that a bad thing to suggest? Whoa, Nellie! I can imagine how many eyebrows would hit the proverbial roof, at the mere suggestion of this. But the Therapeutae are associated with the Great White Brotherhood of Master Craftsmen and I do believe Sir Laurence Gardner is right about them being a part of what ultimately is a Hermetic Brotherhood of esoteric schools in many civilizations throughout time. To have her as an equal or mortal wife of the Son of God had to be expunged from the Gospels as arranged by Rome, with Paul and all the other Gospel writers who wrote long after the death of Jesus.

Baigent, Leigh and Lincoln and then just Baigent and Leigh in the Dead Sea Scrolls Deception are a necessary resource to consider. I find rabbinical scholars like Silver and Maccoby are even more instructive to the intrigue that surrounds the Roman plot to blame the Jews; to start a religion based on hatred and keeping people divided was their goal. It is far better for Empire; rather than what the Pharisees or Jesus would have liked to have seen happen. If we had learned to think of Jesus as a mortal and someone we too could aspire to emulate, the world would be a far better place. Jesus knew We are all the children of God (or as John 10:34 says Ye are all gods.) and that it was possible to Be Still, and Know, that I AM (YHVH). The I AM consciousness in all things that connects us is of paramount importance yet it has been diminished and marginalized along with the soul. Thus when Jesus is quoted as saying I AM the wayetc he most likely is speaking about YHVH or I AM and referring to the way to the Oneness by actually saying something properly translated as I AM is the Way

Mary Magdalene or Mary of Magdala was also Mary of Bethany. These are two of the homes of her father Joseph of Arimathaea according to many scholars. The very place of Arimathaea is not clear in the Bible or its attendant dogma and study, but Robert Graves (in The White Goddess) tells us that it is Almathea. I see a Dryad or Greek oracle (The Romans called these female Druids by the handle Sibylls and despite the proscription of Druids they still valued their insight and predictions or divinations.) with that name or something akin to it, in the historical record. Linguistics was one of the best clues in archaeology at one time and it is refined and far better today but still is not enough proof or evidence, by itself. So much coded information exists in the language and symbols of ancient people, that it is hard for most people to accept it.

The legendary Nuil and Scota are fine examples of the guesswork or probing insight that is part of real history and archaeomythology has been able to add a great deal to the uncovering of ancient cultures, once thought mere legend. Nuil is Irish for blood and the name of the River Nile is taken from it. The lifeblood allegory to the River Nile and its dark earth is a vital part of esoteric knowledge and thus I think Nuil is really not as important for what ever some person of that name might have done as it is important for the code of the vital starting ingredient for the Philosophers Stone. The virgin earth and the Black Madonnas in the Gothic Cathedrals are connected to this same virgin earth which once could be found in meteoric material. But this book really isnt about the alchemists or peryllats and Cabiri of the Druids, and I have gone into these details in more depth elsewhere.

If one reads the wedding at Canae where Jesus turns the water into wine, it is evident there is no bridegroom but the father of the bride is talking to Jesus much as you might expect the man who later took the body of Jesus to his family crypt would do. Pilate would not have released the body unless to a relative, by the nature of the law. It is also true that any teacher or Rabbi in Israel has to be married and is encouraged to have children in order to better give advice. This is the law of Mishnah and even if it was not in writing at that point in time (as some say) it was the law of the Jews. Does it not seem odd if Jesus and Mary were not married that she traveled with him? So there are many who trace Mary and the family of Jesus to Southern France and the Merovingian dynasty that resulted. Joseph of Arimathaea and his staff lead to the Glastonbury Thorn tree which is a botanical anomaly to say the least. It is a Palestinian Thorn Tree, in England near where his business often took him for the Phoenician long-established tin trade.

Hermetica by Paul Kiritsis - Book Review

iUniverse (2007)
ISBN 9780595449569

This book had a strange effect on me. I found as I began reading it that I was mesmerized by the poems and stories. It engaged me from the beginning to the end and I had a hard time putting it down. I applaud the author's style of combining both collections of poetry and his own interpretations of myths and legends.

In the introduction, the author describes the contents of the book "'Hermetica: Myths, Legends, Poems' is a collection of both poetry and my own renditions of epic myths and legends. Its title comes not only from the fact that was influenced by Hermetic literature but also because it concerns itself with alchemy, primarily the alchemy of love." (page xvii) "He has complete faith that true love does exist and writes as elusive as it may be, true love does exist and anyone can find it present in their life if they are really open to such." (page xvii)

The poems and stories that follow captured my attention and took me on many adventures. The first section on poetics contains poetry that includes alchemy, magic, astrology, myths, wisdom, music and erotica. The second section contains seven mythical stories that deliver messages to the reader. The author pays tribute to the love story of Osiris and Isis and the events leading up to Osiris' death and through his resurrection. Several other stories are included including a popular one from the Middle Ages, "The Tale of the Shipwrecked Sailor."

Throughout time oral and written stories have been used to teach people morals and lessons. Even the Bible is full of the parables taught by Jesus using examples to teach people new ideas and lessons. In "Hermetica: Myths, Legends, Poems," the author does a great job with intertwining ancient stories with today's themes. As a former resident of the Hawaiian Islands, I especially enjoyed the poems about the islands and the volcano goddess Pele. If you enjoy myths, legends and poetry, then this book is for you.

Confession To North Korea - We Left Our Bibles At Home

As I was reading the words to an old familiar hymn in church this morning-from the overhead - I began thinking about what we will tell the North Koreans when they ask us why we don't use songbooks any longer. The Koreans as a rule use many of the traditional songs of the church, a great deal of which have been around since the Reformation. The songbook to a Korean is a precious thing.I imagine that songbooks as well as Bibles have been smuggled in to the North Korean churches by now. But overhead projectors may have not. Here, besides giving up the content of those old hymns on which we were raised, we've stopped bothering with the containers, the books, too. So what should we tell them?

And Bibles, that will be an even greater challenge of explanation. In America not as many people carry their Bibles to church these days. Many pastors have given up trying to get their people to buy one standard version, like the new King James or some such solid translation. So they put Scriptures on the same overheads as the songs. People can leave their Bibles at home, so they do. How do we tell North Koreans they won't need to bring these precious Books into the House of God any longer when "freedom" comes? How will we break it to them that those who risked their lives to get them the Bible did it only for their home reading, that the church is taking another step away from its rich tradition? What will we tell them?

I know. The first Christians had neither Bible nor songbook. But between their age and ours has come the Roman usurpation of the Church and the Word. The Reformers tried to restore the Message to all the people. They wrote it, translated it, published it, distributed it. Because of that heritage, from a child, most of us have learned to cherish it, knowing it was given to us at the price of much blood.

But the times they are changin'.

Britain and America led the way for the longest time in getting the Word to the world. But Britain's influence waned long ago. America now follows, and seems to be leading the charge into apostasy, spreading its doctrines and strange ways into the universal church.

One thing American workers in Korea, whether they be of the South Korean variety or the standard European stock, need to remember if they are to be effective servants to the emerging (and it will emerge!) North Korean population: we do not sell the new Americanism to the Korean church. We don't go to Westernize but to Christianize. Liberty has its limits and the North Koreans must be carefully taught what those limits are. It is easy to imagine a starving population eating everything in sight once they're free, of physical food as well as all the other thingsthat can be ingested in a man's mind and soul.

Oh for the gift of discernment for North Koreans! Oh that Americans had it too. Who will stand up and ask for the hymnals and Bibles to be restored to the American church? Not for show, but for use. To get people turning pages and finding chapters and listening and reading as the preacher preaches, and growing thereby. To reverse the trend of the electronic age lest we all get swept away into something we will regret as much as did true believers in the Medieval church: the loss of God's Word.

It is coming, you know. One big happy religion with no Bibles, no songbooks, no preached Word, no real praise. No strong message. One huge political power that will speak for moral correctness but will not know what sin is about. 'Cause they left their Bible at home.

Sabbath - What Is The State Of The Law Of God Today?

Are to believe all that Rome has created in the way of a Christian Sabbath because Paul the apostle said to take an offering on the first day of the week? All of this because the Christians in Troas were meeting on the first day of the week? Are the things that believers do en masse therefore dictated by the Holy Spirit for all? It is through this philosophy of listening to "the piety of the people", that is, God speaking doctrines and practices through what the majority of the professing Church believes, that Rome has come up with other teachings, some of which are quite blasphemous. How far to go with such a philosophy? For me, no farther than what is written for all believers for all time, the Holy Scriptures that concluded with the apostle John in the first century A.D. If the people in their piety believe that, it is because there is light in them from Heaven. If they believe something beyond the word, it is fiction pure and simple.

This much we know, then. But the question comes, what do we do with knowledge thus gained? Does God care if we continue on as we are? Is there an eternal significance to the Sabbath to which true followers will eventually be drawn ? Is God more concerned with the picture or the reality of our rest in Jesus Christ and the coming rest of the planet during the Millennium? Are we under any laws of any kind in Christ Jesus, or are we truly free from law when in Christ?

Most of us are probably not aware of all the "Old Covenant" things we do in connection with our church life. Think of all the Psalms we sing, the prophecies we read and believe, the great histories of God's men and women. All of this is before Calvary and Pentecost, yet somehow we think of it as part of the will of God for us.

Let me ask you this: What common practice in the New testament Church was first practiced in the Old Testament times, but without a recorded command from God? It began in Genesis spontaneously, or so it seems, and was later a part of the Law of Moses. It was never specifically commanded in a New Testament book although it is implied in several. Since the New Testament church was first Jewish, we expect it is probably for today. Pastors swear by it, but it is much less a New Covenant idea than the seventh day Sabbath which is nearly written off as cultic. Answer? The tithe.

We are literally steeped in Jewish ways. Why do we want to exclude the Sabbath rest? Did God?

The question of the Sabbath, only one of ten commandments, and those commandments only one component of a comprehensive legal system, must be considered in a broader context if the hint of a solution is to be found. The much more difficult question concerns the law itself. What is the law's place in the believer's life? Did the law pass away? Are we totally lawless now?

For the answers, we return to the only written Source of Truth available, and call upon the Truth Himself to guide us through this maize. Let's read His prophet Jeremiah:

Jeremiah 31:31-34 [portions]. "Behold the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah- not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers... My covenant which they broke...But this is the covenant that I will make...I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people."

a. First note that this covenant is not suddenly "Gentile". It is to be a new covenant for the old people. We know that Gentiles were admitted in, but it is originally offered to Israel and Judah. And originally, it was those Jews who responded.

b. Its newness has as much to do with method as with message. In fact, no change to the message is mentioned. But the way of communicating this covenant, we discover later, is the Spirit of God and His filling of the believer in Jesus. This will bring the obedience so long sought for by God.

c. But not to be overlooked here is the word "law" itself. "My" law, says God, the things I have always wanted them to do, not some new law, will be inside them. The destruction of all law is not envisioned here, only a way for God's people to keep that law holy.

Here then is a glimmer of light to help us to understand how the Sabbath, and other Commandments, can be kept by believers in our own day.

What Or Who Is Holding Back Antichrist?

Daniel and Paul said a lot of things in common about antichrist. But Paul adds a few very important facts from the revelations given him personally.

First he indicates the difference between what men like Antiochus Epiphanes and Titus did, historically, and what antichrist will do. He claims that antichrist will profane an end- time temple, not by placing an idol in it, not by offering a pig at its altars, but by entering that holy structure himself and proclaiming to the world that he is the God of Israel! He will claim to be God in the flesh!

Paul jumps from that astounding fact to the fact that the Thessalonians should now know (since he visited them and told them, or because of something he just shared) what is holding back the rise of antichrist. If they should know, perhaps we should know too. This is not meant to be a secret. Yet this passage is under contention in most church circles that discuss it. It is as though they too have unwittingly entered into the mystery of the "holding back" of information, as Daniel was told to do in Daniel 12, so that the information would not be lost on persons who did not need it. The more our "scholars" try to unlock these verses, the more bound they become!

The prevalent view is that the one "holding back" or restraining the antichrist and thus Christ's return, is the Holy Spirit. The teaching goes that when the Spirit, which lives in the church, rises with the church and out of the world, before antichrist and before the tribulation, to a safe place in Heaven, then antichrist, who has been waiting for this very thing, is now free to do whatever he wants! He will then rise to power.

Does not compute.

1. The Spirit's presence is not confined to the church. Remember in your own life how the Spirit came from outside of you to the inside of you to bring you to Christ? Before you were in Christ, the Spirit was working with you.

2. The Bible already says that there will be a falling away of truth and righteousness to allow for his rise. It is not the removal of bodies but the removal of faith that gives antichrist the nod in any generation. The Bible gives several examples of Satan fully working his work on the earth, with God's permission, and the Holy Spirit still here. His work on Job and Jesus are two glaring examples. Satan does not need the Spirit's removal, only the Spirit's permission, to do his own evil will on earth.

3. Without the Spirit in the earth, how can those be saved who will indeed come to Christ during the Tribulation period? All of those who contend for a pre-tribulation rapture agree that there are indeed saints here during that evil time, but they refuse to allow that they are part of the Body of Christ, the Church! If they are "saints", holy ones, they had to be saved by the Holy Spirit.

I believe that the concept of "restraining" is not all that complicated. In fact John the revelator gives us a classic example in Revelation 9. There, an angel is given a key to the Bottomless Pit. When the key is used, there is unleashed on earth a plague of "locusts". We are told later that it is out of this same Pit that will come "the beast." Cannot we assume that a similar angel is now restraining this beast, and that at a command from Jesus he will open that Pit once more, and free the one who is now being restrained there?

Another key example is back in the book of Daniel (10-11), where Gabriel tells Daniel that he can only stay a short time because he has to get back into the heavenlies to help Michael fight with the demon spirits of Persia and Greece. Angels under God's direction are restraining world powers all the time, so that everything is done at "the appointed time."

I believe that he who now restrains, using Paul's language (2:7), is indeed an angelic force keeping antichrist in place until the exactly correct time. When the angel is told to step aside ("he is taken out of the way", 2:7) the lawless one will be revealed.

That tells us that the lawless one was being held prisoner in Paul's day (he who now restrains, 2:7). This fact alone rules out the possibility that the coming seventh world emperor, still future in Paul's day and ours, will be "killed with the sword" and rise again as antichrist immediately. Besides that, Daniel 9 confirms that it is the "prince" who both makes and breaks the covenant with Israel. Thus he must reign the full seven years of the period, not split it with that other emperor.

Paul shows us, further, what is revealed by John about how antichrist will surface as a world leader. It seems that every step will be prefaced by a lying wonder or miracle. The part of the world that does not know the true God will have no choice but to believe that this man is God.

So antichrist lives somewhere now, in the netherworld under angelic supervision. When the time is right, he will come to power and fulfill in detail every word of God.

A Sabbath in Our Future?

What do you think Jesus believed about any future use of the Jewish (as we call it) Sabbath? Surely, if the Sabbath was to pass into history and be forgotten, He would not mention it as a future possibility. Let's look at the facts:

Matthew 24:20-21. "And pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the Sabbath, for then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be."

The conjunction for at the beginning of verse 21 links that verse to the former one. The standard teaching about this passage is that Jesus had in mind the destruction of Jerusalem in A.D. 70. But by linking the flight time to the incomparable world devastation Jesus is telling us that His people will be having to deal with Sabbath issues even at the very end of this age. Matthew 24:15 (the parallel passage) even sends a note to readers of this text as a clue that even though Jesus is addressing the twelve, a much later time period is being discussed.

Now why would Jesus ask end-time believers to pray that their flight from a Holocaust not be on a Sabbath? Where is the tender-hearted teaching we have heard throughout the Gospels about a God who understands human need, and expects even donkeys to get a break on the seventh day? Would it matter to Him that we were running for our lives on that day? Would we be "breaking" the Sabbath to flee from the forces of the antichrist? Matthew Henry suggests that just as traveling in winter would be stressful to the body, so traveling on Sabbath would injure the soul. He is talking to a people who know of and have experienced the sweetness of that holy day. For them it is unthinkable that a full six days can be faced without that 24-hour breath from Heaven. If after a long work week their world suddenly falls apart and they are forced to run for the hills on that day, then how can they face the morrow?

Our mindset is so foreign to thinking such as they had, that it is perhaps difficult to imagine why there is such fuss over one single day. But the point here is that the Sabbath will be around in the days leading to the transition to the coming Kingdom, albeit it is fair to say that this warning message is addressed to unbelieving Jews in the main. Whether believing Christians are included in this Sabbath practice is a matter of controversy and discussion among believers. It is for this reason that I address it.

There's a live news feed on the site, lists of resources, picture essays, and ways to respond to the overwhelming need in North Korea. Let's love Chosun together!

And who am I? A man found of God over 50 years ago, called to the ministry, serving the Lord as needed in my world. Married, member of a local church in the Chicago area, with full time work in public education. Who are you? Would love to fellowship with believers who respond on my site.

Three Questions to Ask Yourself If You're a Christian

I was talking to someone on the Internet the other day through e-mail and I found myself asking them the same questions that I have asked others to think about. That's when it dawned on me that I should make this list available to everyone who is either involved in Christianity or is thinking about becoming a Christian.

1. Why Do You Believe in God?

Have you ever given it much thought, how or why he became a Christian. Were you raised a Christian and now consider yourself a Christian or have you converted from another religion to Christianity? Were you a nonbeliever and now are a believer? Are you someone who was indecisive and didn't really give much thought to Christianity but then met someone and they convinced you to follow the Lord.

2. Do You Use God?

I've heard so many people talk about God when things are going bad but rarely talk about God when things are going good or even give God much thought. When you're having problems, do you pray for God to give you the answers or maybe even a little help? When people are dying, they're reaching for anything that can promise them hope, that this isn't the end of their life. Is God your safety crutch in life, only to be used when there's a problem?

3. Would You Be a Good Person without God?

Is fear the only thing that keeps you in line? You don't want to do anything bad, because you might not get to go to heaven. Is it possible for you to live your life as a good person, an honest person and maybe even show a little compassion towards others, without God. Do you think we could live in a world and be good people without fear or judgment?

I don't really know if these three things are going to help you but if just one of them gets you thinking about Christianity, then I've done my job. Learn a little bit more about your religion and how you came about your beliefs.

Finding Something You Don't Like About Yourself - Creating Habits

Finding something you don't like about yourself is usually very easy for most people. Most of the time you don't even have to ask your family or friends because you have heard them complain about the same thing for years. How many times have you heard someone mention, I need to lose weight?

Here's a list of things people don't like about themselves. If you're one of those people that has a hard time finding something wrong with yourself, you could always ask one of your friends for some suggestions. I'm sure they would like that.

1. The need to lose weight. This of course is one of the worst problems with Americans. Most people need to lose weight and let's not forget there are some people that need to gain weight.

2. The need to stop gambling. As more Indian reservations are allowed to build gambling casinos and of course as the Internet gambling gets larger, I've noticed some people with gambling problems.

3. The need to stop drinking alcohol. The abuse of alcohol has been going on for many years. These people have an excuse for why they drink and most of the time it doesn't make sense.

4. The need to stop smoking. This could be one of the most difficult things I've ever seen my friends and family deal with.

5. The need to stop excessive behaviors. For example, gossiping, cruelty, bullying, lying, cheating, stealing, partying etc. You get the idea.

6. Don't forget the dreaded shopaholic. Most shopaholic's seem to have large credit card debt and can't seem to stop this vicious circle of buying and owing money to their creditors.

7. Working long hours or the workaholic. Sometimes this is a necessity but I would suggest that you change your lifestyle if possible. Reevaluate your reasons for working so hard.

8. Religious fundamentalists. People that spend too much time at their place of worship and soon find themselves feeling guilty if they're not doing something spiritual.

9. The need to be on time. This would include people that have problems giving themselves enough time to get ready for work or school.

10. The need to stop doing drugs. I thought by now, approaching my 50s, that drugs would no longer be a problem in the United States, but it is. It's one of the most damaging things people can do to their lives.

There are plenty of things that people would like to stop doing or start doing. If you're a smoker and you seem to shop excessively near the casinos, I would advise you to start with something small and work your way up to the big stuff.

What are you going to change today about your life? Make a list of things that you're not happy with about your life and start making the changes today that you need to create the life you deserve and desire.

Hollow Men Made Whole

As the political races heat up, were going to hear a lot. Some will be true, some false. All will be costly, for TV, billboards and direct (full-color) mail, cost a bundle. Why would politicians spend all that money on claims that may not be factual? I get a date wrong in the bulletin and someone quickly corrects me!

Politicians believe appearance is reality. If someone looks bad, they must be bad. You may have heard it put his way, Perception is reality.
If only that were true. If only we could tell each other that were good, were whole, weve earned our way into Gods grace and favor and have a lock on heaven tighter than the lock the Yankees have on their divisional title. But thats not what the Bible says, is it? Todays text tells us of
Hollow Men Made Whole

1.Mans appearance may be fake.

2.Gods worship makes us real.

While the Northern Kingdom, Israel, had been going to damnation in a hand basket led by their calf-worshipping king, Jeroboam, things had not been going well in the Southern Kingdom, Judah, either. Instead of hearing Gods Word and worshipping the Lord in the Temple, the people set up for themselves high places, sacred stones and Asherah poles on every high hill and under every spreading tree. There were even male shrine prostitutes in the land; the people engaged in all the detestable practices of the nations the Lord had driven out before the Israelites (23-24).
They refused to worship in the Temple. They did their own thing. Set up their own churches in parks to worship the filthy nature gods of the Canaanites, the very people the Lord had driven out for their filthy religion.

The Lord soon acted. In the fifth year of King Rehoboam, Shishak king of Egypt attacked Jerusalem. He carried off the treasures of the temple of the Lord and the treasures of the royal palace. He took everything, including the gold shields Solomon had made. So King Rehoboam made bronze shields to replace them and assigned these to the commanders of the guard on duty at the entrance to the royal palace. Whenever the king went to the Lords temple, the guards bore the shields, and afterward they returned them to the guardroom (25-28).

Whats going on here? Appearance seems to indicate that everything is good. The people are busy with their religious life. Oh, they arent worshiping the Lord in truth and purity in the way the Lord said he should be worshiped, but at least their worshiping Godthats what really matters. Well, to be honest, they arent even worshiping God, they are worshiping false gods that will lead them into heartache and heartbreak here on earth and eternal damnation in the world to come, but at least their worshiping, and thats the important thing, isnt it?

Yes, there was that minor set-back of the King of Egypt cleaning out the land of all its treasures, but things are back to normal now, arent they? See how richly King Rehoboam worships the Lord, attended by 200 shield bearers carrying those bronze ceremonial shields whenever he goes into the Temple. Everybody can be assured things are going great. But never mind that those bronze shields were the replacements for Solomons gold shields which he left simply hanging on the walls of his palace. The King of Egypt took those away and even now, the peace is so uncertain that Rehoboam is afraid some other king will attack, defeat and plunder him so he has even those cheap bronze shields safely stored away in the guardhouse. He only uses them for public show when he goes to church.

How are things with most Americans? From appearances, Id say things are OK with them these days, they got a new job, got a new office, got a new wife, got a new life and the familys fine! Ive lost touch, long ago. Theyve lost weight, I did not know. Whoda thought that youd look so nice after all this time!

Then why all the pessimism about the economy? Why the fear of terrorisms shadow? Why all the pills? And the increasing levels of personal debt to fund consumption? And at least the kids are going to church, well, not our church, but a church that says you shouldnt baptize babies because they cant make a decision for Christ, or a church that says Jesus doesnt give us his true body and blood in the Lords Supper. But theyve got a good band and you know, they have so many new pastors and theres so many people there that you can do whatever you want and nobody will even know how you are living and nobody will even miss you when you are gone, because nobody knows your name.

I see a lot of hollow people in Green Valley trying to fill themselves with appearances. I suppose thats good only if you are a social worker, a shrink or a repo man. You will have a lot of customers. Are we going to be one of those customers? Hollow men made whole. Mans appearance may be fake, but Gods worship makes us whole.

What had God desired from the people of Judah? He desired a worship of him that was a worship of truth and purity. He wanted them to have the best preachers, the best teachers, the best of everything, so he asked that there be a centralized worship in the Temple. Thats where they would gather for the worship of God according to the way God had prescribed worship to be. And, as God had wanted worship to be true, he wanted worship to be sincere, people coming not for the show or to show off, but people to come and humbly worship in a service geared around Law and Gospel, repentance and forgiveness for the sake of the Savior.

Does our worship here work that way? You bet it does. Is it important? You bet it is. I got a flyer in the mail this week trumpeting, Remember that going to a good church is the key in your development as a Christian.

Christians develop at Green Valley Evangelical Lutheran Churchs worship first of all at baptism. The Holy Spirit works through the water and the Word to create faith in the infants, strengthen faith in those older who have never experienced baptisms blessings. Green Valley Evangelical Lutheran Churchs worship develops Christians through the sobering news that we are all hollow on the inside. Sin empties our lives of joy and purpose by turning us against God and against each other. It is so terrible a plague that only God can remove it and he has, through the life, death and resurrection of his Son, our Lord, Jesus Christ. He freely gives us forgiveness of our sins through a hearing of that Gospel, and through a participation in the reception of Jesus true body and blood with the bread and the wine in the Lords Supper. What surer proof could we have that we are children of God, saved from sin and destined for heaven? Because we have Gods sure Word on that, we dont need testimonials from tottering spokesmen, adrenaline rushes or dubious signs. Green Valley Evangelical Lutheran Churchs worship develops Christians by calling sin sin and virtue virtue. We can be so presumptuous to do so because we cling to that pure Word of God. We believe it came from God. We believe it is the very Word of God. Inspired. True. Always relevant. Always sufficient.

Thats why it is important to develop that habit of coming to worship. The veteran Christian knows that when they are going astray, hearing Gods Law is the last thing they want to hear. And it is hard to understand how the very things we are going through are what the preacher is preaching about that week. Nobody is going to get all excited about going to get a beating. But the veteran Christians knows that when they are going astray, keeping away from worship is not the way to go. They habitually go to church so that, even when they dont want to, they hear the spiritual medicine that they need. If you can prove to me every child willingly takes his or her medicine when they are sick, then I will say it is not important to develop a habit of weekly worship as a safeguard for the hard times in our lives.

The sinner in Green Valley Evangelical Lutheran Churchs worship will hear the pure Gospel, not only as a sweet relief from the sins that beset us, but also as the power from God to resist that sin and overcome it in the future. What good is a religion that only preaches I told you so? What good is a church that only tells you, You can do it? We rely on the Gospel from beginning to end, to start faith, to sustain faith, to strengthen faith, that we may receive the crown of glory from the

Lords hand the day we enter into heaven.

Hollow Men Made Whole

1.Mans appearance may be fake.

2.Gods worship makes us real.

Perception is reality? I hope we all realize thats not the case. Well be the worst of voters and at the same time, the worst of Christians.

Does God Exist and If So Who's Right? Religion

Would you stake your life on your beliefs? I'm asking this question, hoping that you have an answer. Would you be gambling with your life or are you that sure about your religion. Do you live your life without a doubt that your religion is right and other religions are wrong or are you one of those people that hopes you are right and hopes that the other religions aren't.

If you are a Muslim and follow Islam, is the Quran the Word of God? Is this text flawless and without error? What's going to be going through your mind when you go to heaven, if you go to heaven, only to find out that the Hindu religion is right. Are you convinced without a doubt, 100% that your religion is right or are their errors and mistakes in your religious text.

Is your God going to be merciful and understanding to other religions or other people who have lived what you would consider to be a good and moral life. Is your god going to let them enter heaven or is he going to turn them away or possibly send them to burn in an eternal lake of fire.

Imagine, if you can, standing near a cliff and there was a long line of people and you were slowly working your way towards the front of the line, watching someone who was glowing with radiant light asking people questions, and pushing some of the people off of the cliff, while others walk away unharmed. You're going to be ready to answer any questions that the glowing person is going to ask you.

When you arrive, he simply says do you believe in your religion 100%. What's your answer going to be? What's going to be going through your mind? Are you that sure, that you're right.

So I ask you again, are you positive and without a doubt, 100% sure that you are right about your religion and the other religions are wrong. If you're not 100% sure, do a little research about your religion and your beliefs will either get stronger or weaker but try to keep an open mind, either way.

Most religions around the world have certain things in common. Seek the truth and the truth shall set you free. You've got to know what you're looking for though, so pay attention.

Religious Faith Or Religious Facts - Think About It

If you're a religious follower and believe in your religion, I would like to ask you a question. Do you base religious beliefs on facts or faith? Let's start out with this and assume that you answered, that you do base your religious beliefs on faith, with little factual information to back it up.

Basing your religious beliefs on faith alone can lead you to believe, what ever someone else tells you. For example, if you go to your place of worship and the religious leader reads something from your scriptures to the followers, do you assume that this is a fact. Are you going to do a little research if something doesn't sound right. If everyone else shares a common opinion about something in your religion, but it isn't true, wouldn't you like to know about it or are you one of those people who didn't even listen and really doesn't even want to be at your place of worship.

Faith can create a lot of problems all by itself. Whenever you start digging into most religions, like I have, and mind you, I'm no expert and do not claim to be an expert in religious beliefs. I'm trying to get people to learn about their religion. This information can be obtained from your religious scriptures, books on other religions, information on the Internet and last but not least talking to other people, outside and within your religion.

Religious facts are hard to come by, when you're beliefs are unrealistic. I can't explain the creation of the world or what year it will be destroyed, but it does seem a little unrealistic and hard to believe that a superior entity created this world and possibly the universe. At the same time I cannot argue with this or disprove it.

With this in mind, I wouldn't go around telling everyone that God or a God created the universe. I just don't have any proof and it's as simple as that. Why would I want to instill this belief into my children or another person? No one on earth has this information.

Try not to base your life on religious faith alone. Just the simple fact that you are reading this article, tells me that you have an interest in furthering your education about religion, whether it's yours or someone else's. You might not be able to find all of the facts to support your religious beliefs but at least it's a start and you're heading in the right direction.

Starting With Simple Things

Learn Something About Time Management From the American Indians Working Four Hours a Day

I don't consider myself an expert on the American Indians but I would like to share a thought about their lifestyle. I was listening to an audio book on the American Indians eating habits, when it got me thinking about something the author said. This might not be a topic of interest for most people but I found it fascinating.

While listening to the audio book, the author made a statement about the American Indians I will never forget. He said "American Indians spend about four hours each day working, gathering and preparing food." If you think about it, that's not too bad of a lifestyle.

I would imagine that we have a better selection and larger variety of food to choose from than they had. This of course would be a benefit to living in our society instead of theirs.

American Indians often spent a lot of time outdoors and for some reason, spending time in nature seems to be a good thing. I know a lot of people that would rather be outdoors than indoors, walking, jogging, hiking, camping and even gardening. It almost seems more natural for us to be outdoors than indoors.

Now with the Indians working about four hours each day, this is a little bit different then our standard workday. Most people spend at least 9 to 12 hours each day driving to and from work and actually working. I would imagine our standard workday would actually be easier than that of the American Indian. I can't imagine some of my friends or family members chasing after a Buffalo with a spear.

Does this mean the American Indians had it right, just because they worked four hours each day and spent more time in nature were doing what they truly wanted to. Know I can't truly say that they had it right, but I can say that they seem to do just fine living with nature.

Some of these civilizations lasted for centuries.

Something to think about, on your daily travels to and from work as you desire to be at the beach or hiking in the mountains. The philosophies we often associate with a good life, could actually be better instead of progressively adding unneeded stress and frustration to it.

Faith - Belief Or Education? - Find Out Why You Believe in Your Religion

Whenever I ask someone involved in a religious organization, the question, do you really believe in your religion? Most of these people will often answer would be yes and start their religious conversion. Some of these people can become very intrusive if I don't stop them soon, very few of these people listen with an open mind.

I have talked to quite a few men and women about their beliefs over the years and still find it hard to believe that most of them live a life of faith with very little understanding or education about their religion. Now some strong believers might take offense to that statement, while others will listen to what I said and start doing a little more research on their religion.

Most of these religions throughout the world make perfectly good sense to their followers and I understand the reasoning behind some of them, it's all they know, everyone around them believes in the same religion and they get some sort of happiness and joy from it.

It's not hard to imagine a young child, walking around with strong religious beliefs if their parents are strong believers in it also. These children grow up and eventually train their children to follow the same path of their parents. Our children should be able to choose, what they will believe in, by the time they are adults.

This is a natural process of life, your parents learned from their parents and whenever someone asked them a question that they really couldn't answer or were uncomfortable answering, they can always reply with, I'm living a life based on faith or you just have to believe. You have to believe that someone is looking out for you and taking care of you. Most of these people think that something else is responsible for the events that take place in their life.

Is it possible for people that live a life of faith to educate themselves about their religion, to find the origin and maybe the destination of their religions. Could these people actually assume responsibility for their choices, whether they're good or bad. It's often hard to listen to somebody tell me that some evil entity made them do something bad. These people are easily convinced by others who agree with them and support them with their statements and beliefs. This seems to be where the biggest problem lies.

Once the people around us support our beliefs, they soon become realities in our lives. These realities will be transferred to others around us and give them support eventually about their beliefs. It's like a vicious circle that never ends. One believe supports another belief, until it's a fact.

Education is the path to freedom and will soon deliver the students from religious bondage. Someone a long time ago said," Seek and You Shall Find, Knock on My Door and I Will Open It.

Having a Spiritual Hernia - Spiritual Education

I have read more information on spirituality, world religions, self-help, motivation and inspirational thinking than you could ever imagine. I probably have about 300 books and about a hundred audios that I could listen to on these subjects. But let's not forget that I have over 200 DVDs and VHS tapes also. Oh I forgot to mention that in October of 2007 my house burned down and along with it was what I would like to refer to it as my lifetime collection on these topics. If I had to value this collection, it would be almost $20,000 in materials.

Now the one thing that the fire provided me with, was a chance to start over and in less than a year of literary accumulation, I'm off to a good start. I have been studying over my lifetime with extreme persistence on how to better my life, which religion to follow and how to make more money.

If someone was to ask me, what I've learned and what books would I recommend, I've got quite a list. I built a website last year to support some of my favorite authors and to help others gather great materials for changing their life. Some of these books have given me what I would like to call a spiritual hernia. So much information and so little time to go through it.

I often ask myself, was this the best use of my time? Could I have done it another way? I really don't know, and I really don't know what will work exactly for you or your friends. I will give you some advice, meditation, contemplation, and meditation, seemed to be the key to a higher spiritual education. Whatever religion you belong to, whether it's Christianity, Hinduism or Islamic thinking, you can spend a little time with your self thinking about your religious choices, on a daily basis.

Simply sit quietly in a comfortable environment for 15 minutes each day. Try to relax, without falling asleep and clear your mind of any thoughts you have during this period. Try to do this every day and soon you will start to see things a little bit clearer. It seems like meditation strips off the layers of crap that are clouding our minds.

Start with 15 minutes and when you feel comfortable, try to extend the time. Some spiritual and inspirational experts, block out at least one hour each day to spend meditating, thinking about the day's events or just trying to get some creative insight for the next day.

I would also like to recommend, one of the best books that I have read on spirituality, laws of attraction and even meditation. The book is by Arnold Patent called "You Can Have It All." This book was also recommended by Oprah Winfrey and other motivational and spiritual authors.

Meditation can provide you with relaxation and creative insight for solving your problems or can be used, just to clear your mind for a while.

Religious Thought - Are You Confused About Heaven?

As a young boy and even into my early adult hood, I asked almost every one that I knew, what they thought heaven was going to be like. These people painted me the most wonderful and beautiful pictures, with the words coming out of their mouths. One woman told me that heaven was going to be the most wonderful place you could ever imagine. She told me that, I would be able to do anything that I wanted to do at any time of the day or night.

All I can say to this, is why are we afraid to die and why do we put that much effort into staying here, when heaven sounds like the place we all want to be. This becomes very confusing during troubled times. We live our whole life to be the best we can possibly be, and then and only then do we get to enter the kingdom of heaven, the most wonderful place in the universe.

Another man told me that, if I wanted to go to heaven, the more good deeds I did on earth, the better buy chances were of actually entering heaven. He said that some people don't get to go, because they did a couple of bad things or maybe one really, really bad thing, like murder. I often wondered what would be worse, murder or painting demonic symbols on the walls of a church, mosque or synagogue. I hope I'm not confusing you anymore than organized religions.

Well now that I have a pretty good idea, that in order to enter into heaven, I need to do good things... that's what I will do for the rest of my life. Sounds simple doesn't it. Now for the bad news, depending on which religion you choose to follow and don't forget that Christianity is one religion that allows you, something special, right before you die, no matter how bad of a person you were to accept Jesus Christ into your heart and accept him as the Almighty God, and this gets you one free pass into heaven.

Am I confusing you at all, does this make sense? When the man told me, that, the only way I would get to go to heaven was by doing good deeds and then the Bible tells me that, I just need to accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior and I get to go to the promised land, heaven. All right now were talking, this sounds pretty good now. I won't have to do very many good things and before I die can ask forgiveness for all the bad things I did.

I don't know what's true, but I can say that it gets a little confusing and as you go from religion to religion and place of worship to other places of worship, you will hear different stories, from different religious leaders. I can't make much sense out of some religions, but if you want to believe in heaven, there is someone out there who can paint you, the most wonderful picture of heaven in your mind. Whether we really get to go there or not, depends on what you want to believe in.

I wrote this article to get people thinking about the choices they've made and the religions they choose to follow. Is your religion right and others are wrong? Ask yourself this one question, think back, to when you made a conscious choice to follow the religion you're in right now, if any, most of the time you started believing as a child and never really got to choose because your parents, teachers, friends, family or guardians made a choice for you.
